The sun was beating down on the East coast of Tasmania for a change, the last few day had only given me rain! My clothes from the previous day on Cradle mountain still lay in a damp pile on the floor, but today was going to be much warmer! I’d need to be careful with water, there was little of it where I was heading.

The route I decided to take was a combination of the short Hazards loop and the main Fraycinet peninsula loop. From the Wineglass bay carpark I followed the path over to Wineglass bay then over that, through the camp ground and up the Mt Graham summit track. I decided not to detour to Mt Fraycinet on an out and back from the main track. Downhill on the other side down to Hazards beach on the West side. Along this and joining the remaining Hazards path back to the carpark. Just under 30K and about 1000m climb altogether. This was the same route as a race thats held here.
The start from the carpark was easy going up then down back filled wooden steps. giving some good views over Wineglass bay. Which you come to next, this felt like you were leaving civilisation a bit here. You quickly loose the crowd as you move down the beach, soon only a couple of foot print tracks cross the damp sand. I hate running on the beach! At the camp ground, I ran past some trampers getting ready to move off. Most people do this loop as a 2 or 3 day walk. After some brief pleasantries I started up the summit tack to Mt. Graham through the bush. This was steady up hill, and quite slow going, mind you I was taking it easy, this was a holiday run after all. The path was not too technical and it was easy to follow. After the initial climb followed a plateau emerging from the trees over broken board walk and rocks. There was a nice breeze up there and some good views back towards the Hazards. A final steeper climb on granite slabs brought me to the summit.

From then on it was down hill into the bush again. The first parts being technical and slow, then leading on to sweeping path and steps perfect for letting gravity take over. I started meeting more people coming in the opposite direction. Most on a 2 day hike with massive packs to suit. I did look a strange sight there on the far side of the loop with just my running pack on haha! I did meet two other runners about half way along coming towards me, so I wasn’t the only one doing this for fun!

Once back at sea level, I had to traverse another beach (did I mention I don’t like beach running?) The sun baked sand radiated heat as I struggled along the sometimes soft, sometimes hard sand. Eventually though, I made it over to join the Hazards loop track again, and followed it around the west side. There was almost no wind on this side, and the winding final few ks were a hot, sweaty few. Where the air is so warm it feels thick and shoughecating. I brought 3l of water with me for the day, and I was just finishing the last warm drop as I finished the last km or so.
