Adventures Down Under part 7 Breakdowns and Departure.

It has been a while since the last part I know, but now I have lots of time to catch up on the posts! As I expect almost everyone does now… So I will be finishing the final part of the Australia series, what a trip! Then I shall be recounting my experience skiing in Italy just before the virus took hold. Mile stone reached, 20 followers! Lets keep that number rising!

Breakdown!

Looks like its back to Wagga!

After leaving Tasmania, I headed north again from Melbourne. Stopping by the Neighbours film set on the way of course… I sped through Victoria because I’d already passed through there on the way down, the plan was to go toward Wagga Wagga then East to the coast through the Kangaroo Valley, then back to Sydney before my flight home.

That wasn’t to be the case though! In Wagga Wagga (NSW’s largest inland city and most ‘Stralian place on earth) I spent the night camping in the boiling heat took a look around the town, had a good flat white and was on my way. Until the van decided to give up!

So I ended up having to spend 4 days there, though I was grateful for a shower and AC, I had well and truly run out of things to do there! I’d been to most of the cafes, the (river) beach, the gardens, and the gallery. In the end I had to abandon the van and take the train back to Sydney!

Back in Sydney

I had 4 days to look around Sydney, on the way in I’d only stuck around for a day before hitting the road. I stayed in a cool hostel in Kings Cross, so I could walk or take the metro to most places. First thing I did was take a free walking tour from the town hall, I love these as you get a good feel for the city centre. I climbed the harbour bridge, a little expensive but amazing non the less.

Now, as you may have guessed from most of my posts I quite enjoy the odd run. I’ve sort of had in mind a loose goal to do a marathon a month for the year. Januarys one was a midnight marathon which was cool, Februarys was going to have to be a solo as there wasn’t any races on. So I thought why not run the Sydney marathon route on my own!

The route for the day!

So starting from the Harbour bridge north shore by the olympic park, I started out back over the bridge and into the city through Hyde park, out via the Eastern distributor road, all the way to centennial park for a couple of laps, then back to the harbour front, before turning along the Walsh bay, then down past the aquarium and around almost to Anzac bridge, then back to finish at the Opera House! What a day out! I had a small water bottle with me and a couple of gels, filling up at drinking fountains on the way. Now that was my idea of sightseeing! Who agrees with me?

The start point
Finished!

It must have looked very odd indeed jogging up to the steps of the opera house in the drizzle, slightly sunburned and laughing to myself, to sprawl on the floor for a bit!

Time to go home

Then the time had come to pack up and make the trip home. Sad times indeed! With the then freshly emerged coronavirus closing China, I had to change my return flight via Qatar instead of China, which was a shame I’ll have to go there another time. I did manage to have a look around Doha though which was cool. To follow.

On my last day I took the bus to Bondi beach in the rain for a coffee and a look around. Then headed back for a final walk to Mrs Macquarie point.

Storm clouds on my last day in Sydney

This Australia trip has been amazing, though there were challenges with fire, weather, and virus. I met some interesting people, had some truly special dive encounters, and experienced a vastness in this country that I didn’t expect. And I only just scratched the surface.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my adventures, I am currently posting about my past travels and adventures, until I can like you get out and make some new ones! Be sure to follow along for the ride!
