With the winter weather here, there will likely be days where the rain and wind will be your only training partner. It’s on such occasions that the idea of staying inside with a coffee and a cake strongly out weighs the prospect of the long run you had in mind.

You’d not be alone, I myself have sacked the day off or shortened the distance on account of it being too wet… Then I said NO MORE! I will not be a slave to the weather! I will get out and I will enjoy it! (granted later on).
Step 1, getting ready. Get your long sleeve thermal top on then your waterproof jacket , hat, gloves, leggings, waterproof trousers, socks etc. Then comes the shoes, which are of course still wet from the other days adventure… Get them on anyway they’ll warm up on the way!

Step 2, leaving the house / car. Now you’re all dressed up, off with you! Get out the door, thats the first step. If you’ve driven to the start of a trail then its a bit easier to get going because you’ve already committed to the drive out there.
Step 3, get moving.
And thats it! Once you’ve started, even in the lashing rain, hail and wind you will quickly wonder what all the fuss was about, and probably have some fun in spite of yourself. I’ve actually had some of my most memorable and rewarding runs in the depths of winter, knee deep in mud and soaked to the skin. And you know what? That coffee and cake will still be there after, and will taste 10x as good!

As always, I hope you’ve enjoyed my ramblings. If so please consider subscribing, liking, sharing, commenting, etc!
Until next time.
